Anti graffiti and anti fly posting coatings are designed to protect the underlying surface from the paint in graffiti, glue in fly posters, air borne pollution and grime that make the surface look dirty and unkempt. Cleaning the coating does not effect the underlying surface.

These coatings come in two forms, either sacrificial or permanent.

When to apply a coating

Coatings are applied to sensitive surfaces like sandstone, granite, historical brickwork, wood and concrete to prevent pollution, grime, graffiti and glue (from fly posters) getting deep into the substrate. If these sensitive surfaces are not coated they would require careful cleaning, which would damage the surface over time. The coating allows the surface to be cleaned without any damage to it.

Certain structures such as subways, flyovers, utility boxes, lamp posts and communal areas are particularly susceptible to graffiti. Coatings make it easier to regularly clear the graffiti, fly posters and dirt without damage to the structure itself.

Anti graffiti and fly posting coatings are now within the budget of any business and organisation that wishes to maintain a clean and professional image. GraffitiHotline.co.uk manufacture a range of anti-graffiti coating kits

Permanent coatings

Permanent coatings are designed to be extremely robust and are smooth and shiny in appearance. Dirt, fly posters and graffiti are removed using soap and water or mild chemicals.

Permanent coatings will protect the underlying surface for up to ten years before needing to be replaced. They are well suited to non porous structures like lamp posts, utility boxes and other street furniture, subways and internal communal areas.

There is a new family of permanent coatings that are designed to repel the dirt, paint, pen and glue (from fly posters). Dirt, fly posters and graffiti do not adhere properly to the coating and are removed using soap and water or mild graffiti removal chemicals. These permanent coating are micro-porous, which means that they allow the substrate to breath and as such are well suited to porous surfaces like brick, stone and concrete.

Sacrificial Coatings

Sacrificial coatings are designed to come off the surface during the cleaning process. They are made to wash off with hot water at low pressure and take the graffiti, dirt and fly posters with them. The coating then needs to be reapplied to the area that has been cleaned in order to provide continued protection to the underlying surface.

Sacrificial coatings are usually micro-porous, which means that they allow the substrate to breath and as such are well suited to porous surfaces like brick, stone and concrete.

Sacrificial coatings are usually designed to be unobtrusive when applied to a surface. If the coating is applied to a two metre height, it is difficult to determine where the coating finishes.

The coating on the wall above has been applied to the height of the repair in the brickwork above the door to protect the surface even when someone stands on the railings.

It is very difficult to tell where the coating finishes and the bare brick starts.
